     Ancient Chinese Ceramics Gallery
------- T.T. Tsui Gallery of Chinese Ceramics
         One of the characteristics of the Shanghai Museum is its abundant collection of ancient Chinese ceramics. In the 1,300-square-metre Ancient Chinese Ceramics Gallery, over 500 fine pieces selected as the representative of various famous wares from the Neolithic Age to the late Qing Dynasty are exhibited.Quite a few of them are rare pieces which have never been shown before. The 8,000-year history of Chinese ceramics is shown systematically.Moreover, life-size models of porcelain-making workshops and kilns are presented in the last section. This is a specialized gallery which introduces the chinese ceramics history and provides, at the same time, a field for art appreciation and scientific research.

        The interior decoration of the Chinese Ancient Ceramics Gallery has achieved success with generous support from Mr. T.T. Tsui, Member of the Eighth Standing Committee of CPCC and Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, P.R.C. With his profound knowledge and rich collection , Mr. Tsui has established the Tsui Museum of Art in Hong kong and made donations to number of world _known museums in America, Canada and Auatralia. He is indeed an ardent advocator of Chinese culture.

Zande Lou Ceramics Gallery
        Next to the Ancient Chinese Gallery is the Zande Lou Ceramics Gallery, Which exhibites the ceramics donated by Mr. J.M. Hu, a well-known connoisseur of Chinese culture relics for his rich and fine collection of ancient Chinese Ceramics in Shanghai and Hong Kong.He and his wife donated together 359 pieces of their Chinese ceramics collection to the Shanghai Museum.130 piece of their donated ceramics shown in this gallery are from Jin and Tang dynasties to the end of the Qing Dynasty. Most of them are the Qing imperial wares, among which the original pairs are especially outstanding.

Chinese Bronze Gallery
        The Shanghai Museum is world-renowned for its rich collection of Chinese bronzes. The magnificent and solemn Chinese Bronze Gallery displays over 400 exquisite bronze vesseis in an exhibition space of 1,200 square metres. It is a special feature that many of the exhibits are important bronze pieces of long-held and heirloom significance, others are valuable vessels of recent acquisitions to the Museum's collection. Ancient Chinese bronzes are the results of the particular social development which characterizes particular times. With its broad range of specimen objects, the Chinese Bronze Gallery chronologically presents the history of bronze art from the18th to the 3rd centuries BC. The initiation and evolution of the art of Chinese bronzes, spanning one thousand and five hundred years, is embodied in the magnificent shapes, exquisite motifs, profound historical information, delicately inscribed scripts and advanced casting techniques evident in the objects displayed.
